Lake Rotorua is considered the best catch per hour Rainbow Trout fishing lake in the world, and has the greatest number per acre of wild trout of any lake in New Zealand, possibly the world. To the experienced Fishing Guide and good local knowledge, boat fishing would yield an average 2-3 trout per hour. The average weight of the rainbow trout from Lake Rotorua is 1.5kg. The weight range is 1kg to 4.5kg. Brown trout range from 2kg to 8kg. It's as easy as that within 20 minutes of being picked up from your accommodation you could be attached to and fighting it out with your evening meal. With the stocking of fish in our lakes the angler has the choice of release or keep. Light tackle trolling provides great sport where no bait is permitted. Fly fishing the lake edge in the summer months can yield the most fun and excitement especially the cruising browns around the spring stream mouths. The other lakes in the region each have there own unique fisheries and offer different opportunities to numerous to list.
