The Waka is culturally significant and important to the Maori. The Maori are proud to acknowledge that they are a maritime people. The strong Waka history and the fact that many Maori still retain their ancient Waka histories and traditions reflects the power of Waka as a means of identity and pride.

The Waka carried the Maori from their Polynesian homeland of Hawaiki and around this land of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

This traditional past time will provide visitors with a limited opportunity to experience the traditions and histories of Maori Waka to endure first hand, the ways of our ancestors and a by gone era.

Hoe Waka 1 Hour Guided Tour :

This product provides paddlers with an interactive and educational waka experience involving chants, salutes, different paddle techniques and stories from our past. For sports,educational, conference and incentive groups this is by far the best in teambuilding activities available on the water today.

This journey concludes with a glide past the Rotorua City Lakefront where paddlers get to show off their newly found warrior skills to their families and friends as well as the many hundreds of visitors that frequent our shores everyday. This experience is provided by two local guides.
